The term “baby sign” has become quite popular in Japan in recent years. Baby signing uses gestures (signs) to enable communicate with babies before they can speak.

Our approach at Hana House  is a bit different from baby signs or Baby Sign Language. We use signs (ASL American Sign Language) from birth as a part of raising children, not just before they can speak. We continue to sign even after children begin speaking as it is one of their languages.

Signing not only enhances parent/child communication, it enables children to interact effectively with the world around them, contributing to the development of a dynamic personality. Signing also eases the way for families raising children with multiple languages such as Japanese, English and sign language. Learning ASL from the start gives parents and children a common 3rd language they can use for years to come.

Signing gives us a window into the amazing minds of young children. Without signs we would not be aware of the world as they see it.  Signing relieves stress and anxiety for both parent and child. It also brings many surprises as you grow closer to your child. These classes are designed to share the benefits and equip parents to raise children with signs.
