Q1. Where Are You From? / 出身地

I was born and raised in Minnesota, USA. I moved to Japan when I was 23 years old, so now I feel like I’m ‘from’ Adachi-ku!!

Q2. What Were You Like As A Child? / どんな子供でしたか?

I loved to read books- much more than watching TV or playing video games. I was a very competitive student and tried to be the one that finished first- but sometimes that was not good for the outcome! I have always been outgoing and energetic, something that I have not yet lost in my old age.

Q3. What Jobs Have You Had In The Past? / これまでの職歴

From 2007-2022, I was a teacher at an international school in Tokyo, and taught in the USA before that time. I’ve also worked in a theater, many different restaurants and coffee shops, and even at a rock climbing wall! Most recently, I’ve started teaching English to grown-ups which has been very interesting!

Q4. What Things Do You Love? / 好きなもの

I love to travel- to allow myself to be immersed into a new place and with new people while learning about their culture. I like facing new challenges even if they are scary, and solving puzzles or problems like in math or computer code.

Q5. What Do You Want Children To Learn? / こどもたちに身につけてもらいたいこと

Everyone should learn how the world works in whichever way they experience the world. For me, it’s learning how to explain phenomena using math or science. For others, it may be being able to explain how a group of people work together or how a machine completes its tasks. Being able to utilize different languages helps our brains to think more deeply, and helps us learn even more about the world!

Q6. Message To Students / メッセージ

Don’t be afraid of making mistakes- we all make them. Just do your best to not repeat the exact same mistake twice- that is the key to personal growth!
